The same applies to mastering I feel best leave it a while and start the process having been away from the piece a while. I find it good and it only travels a few meters. It is handy for checking mixes on several radios, stereo, mono, big small etc. I also use a short range radio transmitter and beam the mix or master to any radio that will pickup on the frequency. It is better to make several little adjustments rather than a few big ones with fatigued ears. You are hearing it then like the average listener. ![]() I work on one for a while then go to another and come back to number one with fresh ears. That is why I like to have a couple of sessions going on at the same time. Especially if you are working on a composition of your own and are hearing every little click etc on the tracks, we can be over critical. In fact I think it is good to get away from a mix and come back to it with 'fresh ears'. Master the next day after you print the mix. ![]() I understand that not everyone will be able to hire a professional ME and will have to resort to "DIY mastering". What I am about to say applies to the ideal Mastering situation. I used T-Racks prior to getting into UAD stuff and did like it but it is years ago. How do you find the workflow compared to using the UAD mastering plugs. ![]() I am wondering do any of you use Ozone, Lurssen Mastering Console etc? IK ARC 3 room correction software also has an emulation selection of how the mix will sound across various monitor types too. It allows you to reference your master against 3 finished masters from tunes you may be aiming your master to sound like and matches the level and eq curve to match. They make a interesting pluin called Master Match too. I have been looking into IK Multimedia Lurssen Mastering Console and like the fact you can take your mix on iPad out to the car for example and tweak it there or anywhere. However, I notice a lot of people use Ozone. I used to use T-Racks standalone a lot and really liked the brickwall limiter. ![]() I use my UAD mastering plugins a lot and like them very much.
